Bailey Van Ellis is one of the most underrated drummers today. ![]() They have a throwback sound to the days of Hum, Sunny Day Real Estate and even a little My Bloody Valentine. The guitars on this record are some of the best you will hear in this genre at the moment. These guys wanted to make a better record and it shows. The music on this album is improved upon as well. Hopefully this will be the album that more people hear what he is saying. His lyrics are some of the best you will hear in music today. Jon has figured out how to reach people in a way that many haven’t. But take me back and be my time machine, show me the sky from a new perspective.” In this song something as simple as daydreaming which we all do from time to time is made into something therapeutic, something to help us get along with day to day life. The chorus goes, “Caught me swimming in a daydream, caught me blocking out my past. Another song that stuck out was “I’m Swimming”. It is almost like therapy for a broken heart. Some of them are places none of us like or want to go but this song takes you there anyway. A roller coaster ride in the dark to places I don’t want to go.” That line alone gets the mind working and going to a million different places. There is a line in the song that goes “My vacant heart, how is it that you split in two parts? I’m checking in to reminisce. The very first track, “Parachutes” jumps right into that. Jon Simmons has always written about what is in his heart and this album is no different. With this release it just has been upping the ante. It has the same emotions that were all over Separation. However in the process they grew as a band. ![]() This record appears to pick up where their last album left off. The album, The Things We Think We Are Missing is the second full length by this five piece from Doylestown, PA which also happens to be the home of Circa Survive and Daylight. It shows that people did listen to good bands growing up. It is a sound that is refreshing to hear. Other bands that have found some success with this are Title Fight, Citizen and Basement before they broke up. ![]() This is something that appears to be the “in thing” at the moment. They have a sound that is a throwback to 90s alt-rock. Balance and Composure is a band that has the potential to go far in this industry.
